Winter Motivation - Need some for your team?

As days grow darker and colder, motivation wanes, and you find that all your team wants to do is curl up, sleep, eat, and repeat. Honestly, who can blame them? We all want to do that! As I head off to the UK for their heatwave tomorrow, I thought I would leave you a little gift to keep you going through the cold weather...

How can you as a leader keep your people (and yourself) motivated in the winter? Let’s dive into some ideas!

4 creative ways to increase winter motivation:

Productivity Plans

Sometimes, simply being prepared is the best antidote for winter blues. If you know where you’re going and how to get there, enduring bitter days won’t seem so hard and out of reach.

Create plans and solutions for productivity to keep your team motivated throughout the day, providing a clear and achievable vision.

Positivity and Gratitude

Cultivating positive energy immediately boosts feelings of motivation in others, and gratitude produces oxytocin, keeping the good vibes going.

Gratitude is called the “social glue” by researchers because it produces the bonding hormone, oxytocin, which increases happiness and positivity in those who are surrounded by it. So, there you have it, positivity and gratitude aren’t just nice emotions, it’s science!

Fresh Air

Getting outside, even for just a few minutes, puts life back into you. Sitting in stale air all day, no matter what the season is but especially wintertime, is the biggest drag.

Even if it’s cold and dark, bundle up and get outside to give your lungs fresh air. As we say in Queenstown, “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.”

Gamification

Turn your systems and goals into games, creating competitions and offering fun incentives for reaching new levels and achieving accomplishments. It will switch things up a bit and bring a new and exciting environment to your team.

Gamifying your organizations keep your teams engaged and their spirits high. There is nothing else like healthy competition to keep people motivated.

I have a strong belief that there is no such thing as motivation. Only action or inaction. So I am interested, what things do you do to keep motivated in the winter?
